I am very much impressed in the article. I want to have a documentary film on harm of UCG plant to bring awareness among the people as our area is going to be washed out by establishment of UCG plant recently which will be the first UCG plant in India.
THE BUSH HAS BEEN RORTED.
Article by Senator Barnaby Joyce published in the Canberra Times, Opinion section 17, Thursday July 21,2011.
It seems that Senator Joyce may in fact be the elephant in the room. His electoral office website asks people to sign a petition to abolish the carbon tax, while on one hand he rightly opposes the coal seam miners.
He rightly decries the destruction of good arable land by this industry as well as the destruction of the rural economy.
He strongly objects to the cavalier attitude these have to farmers and farming. I quote from his article-
“Some of the wells are producing a $1million a day in gross income. For this farmers can get anywhere between a slab of beer at the worst and up to $10000 a year at the best”
However he denounces a carbon tax in preference for dirty coal. Lock the Gate and a carbon tax seek the same result. To walk both sides of the street on this issue is hypocritical.
To much is involved to indulge in petty politics. Lock the gate can make a major contribution in this area by-
Taking a stand against short sighted policies.
Strike a blow for democracy.
Combat governance by shock jocks.
Promote democracy and a fair go for ordinary people.

Lets not sell this nation for a slab of beer.
