Walking For A Future

February 11, 2012 Debbi Uncategorized

June Norman, great grandmother aged 71 years is in the process of walking from Dalby to Gladstone following the coal seam gas pipeline and the coal train corridor.

June Norman is concerned about the future she is leaving her grandchildren and is keen to connect with communities affected by these industries.

“I’ve seen the impacts of the mining industry and I am really concerned, where will my grandchildren source their food and what quality will their water be? This industry needs to be slowed down and managed in a more sustainable manner.” said June.

June Norman has decided to combine her passion for walking and her passion to leaving her grandchildren a sustainable and healthy future.

“I feel my generation is allowing this destruction to happen at a rate that is out of control. I feel responsible to do what I can to stop this madness and influence our government to consider the long term impacts of what it is permitting.

I am planning to arrive in Gladstone on the 8th March 2012 in time for the visit from the United Nations Environment (UNESCO) representatives who are inspecting the impacts of the coal and gas industry on our World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef.

I invite members of the community to be part of the journey by doing one or more of the following
- join me walking into your town
- organise a welcoming event in your town
- provide food and accommodation for those participating in the walk (we will have camping equipment)
- promote the walk through your networksSee More
