Peoples Blockade- Day 50/Lock the Gate Festival

May 3, 2011 Debbi Group action

Another beautiful day for our festival.

This morning we went to Kenya and protested outside the gates there for a while, and then we headed to Chinchilla to participate in the May Day Celebrations as we had received permission from the Chinchilla Rotary Club to march in the May Day street parade.

They “locked the gate” on us though as we were blocked from entering the Chinchilla Showgrounds  where the rest of the  May Day celebrations were being held……hmmmm….one must wonder if it was because it was sponsored by QGC and like many of the businesses benefiting from this industry, are turning on US……the people who will be impacted by this industry…….because  they didnt want to upset their money supply???………hmmmm…..just a thought!!!

Our festival started to wind down today, with many still in attendance right up til the afternoon, where many…but not all…started on their journey home. Dinner was a smaller affair, with many thanks to our cook and her MANY helpers!!!

As we gathered around the campfire The Frackman entertained us with many stories, with roars of laughter all around.

An early morning action is planned for tomorrow, and we will see many brave the early morning chill to upset QGC  one last time before they all return to their homes again tomorrow.

QGC are still flat out laying pipes, trying to finish this part of the project as they are way behind schedule.

The GASLAND screening on SBS1 last night has brought about more phonecalls from concerned residents.  People are starting to become aware of just how bad this industry really is.

BASECAMP is still operational, and with the festival almost over, we will be  ready to protect our estate with all hands on deck again once more.
