Peoples Blockade- Day 30
This morning saw the welcome arrival of BOB IRWIN, LIBBY CONNORS AND AIDAN McLINDON and many more to show support for the Peoples Blockade.
It appears QGC are not working in the estate today. They were obviously worried, and packed up all their toys and locked them away so no one else could play!
Even the police task force moved from the pipe yard and headed back to Kenya…..(hmmmm….i guess they preferred the easier access to QGC’s sandwiches……..where’s ours???…….protestors get hungry too you know)
So we did the only thing we could do, we headed off to QGC’s(Qld Gas Chambers) Kenya gas field offices in a 20+ car convoy, including 3 police cars.(Thanks for joining in our protestors convoy fellas, we know you really care), where we proceeded to make our presence known, which we did, thanks to our supporters chanting HANDS OFF TARA, the smurfs who came out to play singing “NO FRACKING WAY” and to Bob, Libby and Thomas as they refused to obey a police order to move on.
They were charged with contravening a police direction and will appear in court next month.
Bob says he will continue to fight Queensland Gas Company’s plan to put a pipeline in the area.
“I’ve actually witnessed the devastation that’s taking place out in the Tara district, not just to the people but to our environment and I’m quite angry,” he said.
“We’ve got to think of our future and our children and our grandchildren.”
A BIG thankyou again to Bob, (Steve would be VERY proud of you!!!), Libby and Thomas.
Your support is truley appreciated!!!
As the police carted away our friends, we headed back to our property owner Bryce’s place, where he proceeded to tell his story to the media and show them the destruction caused by QGC while the rest of us settled ourselves in to stay a while and protect the last, lonely old tree, not yet killed off and moved out of the way by QGC’s bulldozers, as Bryce awaits the outcome of the EPA investigation for them to decide what we already know, that QGC have breached the contract in place between them and Bryce……(oh dear, is that a change in legislation i hear coming………to over ride the contract in favour of QGC???……AGAIN!!!)
QGC have stated they are not leaving the estate, and we would like to reinforce our own message: We have to live here, We are NOT going to live in a gas field, so we will be here longer fighting you every step of the way!!!
QGC claimed it would take them 21 days to complete the pipeline and so far its taken them 30 days…thats 9 days overdue and if we have our way…..even longer…….we are prepared to win or go down fighting!!!
MEANWHILE BACK AT BASECAMP
Morale is very high.
Dinner is a noisy affair, with the dairy-a-holic and the lactose intolerant debating over the use of coconut milk in the potato bake…….with the dairy-o-holic giving her seal of approval after tasting….ALL IS WELL AGAIN!!!
The guys were, well what can i say………they are guys!!!
The smurfs have settled for the night, ready to reappear again when needed.
Our blockade is ongoing, so please come along to BASECAMP whenever you can and help us fight not just for ourselves but for communities everywhere as they are next in line if we lose!!!
Western Downs Alliance
Love this upbeat post, can’t wait to visit the “historic” site of what could truly be the most important fight in Australia’s history!
Can we have a photo of the smurfs…or have I missed one already???
Oh…and a photo of that very lonely tree left standing…if it’s on it’s own in a bare bulldozed area it could be a great environmental symbol of the destruction???….
